"I graduated...NOW WHAT?"

Graduation is a time of celebration! It is the time of year when we see lots of pictures (mostly selfies, which I like to call "lifees" because we are, after all capturing life moments) and videos of students wearing caps and gowns capturing the exciting emotions surrounding their big day. This day celebrates the completion of one chapter and the beginning of an entirely new one. Imagine all of the feelings that flood the exhilaration of graduation. We have all had them (some of us more recently than others). Joy for finishing classes, anxiety about what is next, sadness of leaving friends that have felt like friends for a lifetime, pride in a job well-done, and appreciation for all of those who have helped along the way.
With all of these mixed emotions that our players are inevitably having, what a great way for us to minister to them and remind them of some truths:
Proverbs 3:4-5
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
Deuteronomy 31:6
“So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic...For the LORD your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you."
Jeremiah 29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”
And, we can also challenge them to continue working hard in all they endeavor as their journey continues:
John 17:4
“I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do.”
Colossians 3:23
“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.”
The other great thing is that, even though we may be far removed from being cap-and-gown-clad, we need these reminders too! God STILL loves us and STILL has great plans for us. Just as we demanded our players to work hard and give their all, we have a Father who wants our very best—in everything.
So now as we go about writing graduation cards, or sending encouraging texts to our newest alums now that they are in the “real world,” use the truths God gave us. Always remember that the players we have coached are still ones that need to hear from us and need to see that we are still there for them. As the relationships continue to develop and deepen, watch as they see Him continue to work in their life and on their behalf as you pour into them with these and other truths. It’s a lifelong journey that will be rewarding.
Congratulations to all on another class of young ladies graduating and entering the work force! Well-done! Keep inspiring and mentoring!
